Turn Page on Old Wrinkle Eye to YouthNo one is happy when the first signs of aging begin to appear around your face. The sight of the “11’s” appearing in the middle of your forehead begin so subtly that you think they came in overnight, or the infamous “laugh lines” that we all get to see showing up at the corner of our eyes soon represent worry that we are facing the tell tale signs of aging.

There is no shortage of beauty tips that no doubt promise to slow down the process and even some claims that vow to reverse it but you may wonder which ones will work the best. The reality is that before you can address the problem of wrinkled skin you need to understand the underlying cause behind the wrinkles themselves.

There are a number of reasons why a person may get wrinkles ranging from aging to smoking to sun exposure but the real reason is clearly in the loss of the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Dina Al Mahsiri for Tips For Natural Beauty explains this,

A wrinkle is a fold, or crease in the skin. Wrinkles appear on the skin as you age. Aging skin starts to lose its ability to hold on to moisture, makes less oil, and is slower to heal. That all contributes to the wrinkling problem.

With that in mind the key to slowing down the wrinkling process is to increase your means of moisturizing and hydrating the skin as you age. Here are some tips.

Wear Sunscreen

Sunscreen is very good for those who may be worried about wrinkles but it is also highly beneficial for your health. While it is helpful in reducing your chances for developing wrinkles it also protects you from skin cancer at the same time. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that you stay out of the sun between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. but if you can’t you should always wear sunscreen with a minimum of 30 SPF, regardless of the weather.

Wear Sunglasses

Another way to prevent those little crow’s feet from developing at the corner of your eyes is to wear sunglasses. The skin surrounding the eye is one of the most sensitive areas of the body, it is much thinner than most other areas and is highly prone to the effects of UV radiation from the sun. Squinting constantly in the bright sunlight will leave an impression that will be very difficult to remove in your later years.

Feed Your Skin

Not only do you need to stay hydrated but you also need to make sure that your diet is nutritious and healthy. Drinking plenty of water and teas high in antioxidants will keep the body’s moisture level high and eating fresh salmon three times a week can give your body enough omega 3 fatty acids to help you fight the battle against the wrinkles. The right foods are well known for battling back the aging process because they provide you with the weapons you need for the fight, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to keep your skin looking young and fresh.

Clearly, while there are many reasons a person may develop wrinkles and the signs of aging the main focus you want is to take care of your skin in a way that will slow down this process. According to Everyday Health,

If you neglect your skin and allow it to incur sun damage and further injury from smoking cigarettes, your appearance will suffer as a result.

Experts give the same basic advice for slowing down this process; maintain your skin’s moisture balance, use sunscreen daily, eat a healthy diet, and eliminate your bad habits. When you are conscious of what these things do to your skin you can slow down the advancement of wrinkles appearing on your face.
